This is the “winter” season, meaning it is the coldest time of the year but in all my years in Kenya I had never seen what appeared to be snow in the air or on the ground. Yes, it hails but usually it melts when it hits the pavement but as I was driving west about 30km from Eldoret I entered an area where I was thinking that maybe I should turn back. I have never been keen on winter driving but winter driving on the already dangerous roads of Kenya? Torrents of muddy water rushed past at the side of the road creating a hazard for both drivers and pedestrians. I was thankful that we drove out of the wintery weather about five miniutes later. It wasn’t snow though but rather a lot of hail.
